Remember Samson ? Well, like him men seem to loose their power when they loose their hair… At least, that’s the conclusion of a Gallup Study conducted with 1500 men.
Becoming bald has a direct impact on a male self-esteem! It could even affect his sex-appeal. The good news though is that this loss of confidence is not inescapable. Read this to brush off the blues and move ahead.
A difficult loss
It is a difficult loss, and men apparently have a hard time coping with this prospect. The study showed that more than 62% of them consider that alopecia do or would alter their self esteem.
Attraction at all cost
Hair loss is directly linked to a man’s love life. For instance, 7 Europeans out of 10 consider that hair is an important part of sex-appeal in general. This is also the main concern of those not yet affected by the problem : 71% of them think women would be less interested in them should they suffer form hair loss. One man out of three believes that nice hair actually attract better looking women. Unfortunately, the study did not ask the ladies for their opinions on the matter. This makes it difficult to confirm the validity of this perception.
Various strategies
Men use various strategies to deal with their problem, and they can be quite resourceful when it comes to conceal hair loss. Some of them typically go for very short haircuts or entirely shave their heads, like many football stars or celebrities. Others choose a hat, a cap or even the old-fashioned beret which is making a come back. However the most surprising response is … sport! Baldness being associated with aging, they decide to fight it with muscles and a new look.
The splitting hairs session
If you are stressed about loosing your hair, it’s time for a good introspection. Pause and ask yourself what the deeper cause for your worry might be. Are you afraid of getting old? Scared of loosing your charisma? Obsessing with your hair might just translate more important fears. First, free yourself from the tyranny of fashion, and remember that although it is essential to take care of oneself, it is very toxic to fall into the trap of narcissism. Don’t expect eternal youth, it won’t happen! Instead, accept your body and the changes it goes through. This is the real solution to empower yourself with a healthy self-esteem.
However if combing every morning puts you in a state of distress, know that the specialists at the Regency Medical Hair Centre are available to advise you on efficient treatments which could prevent or limit hair loss. It’s time to hold you head up!
